

WHAT ARE SKIN TAGS?
Skin tags are common benign soft growths of skin that protrude from the surrounding skin on the body. Skin tags vary widely in their colour and shape. Some are smooth, while others are irregular and bumpy. It can either be fleshed coloured or contain darker pigments. can vary in number from one to hundreds. Males and females are equally prone to developing skin tags. Skin tags are not caused by any virus and are therefore not contagious and therefore cannot be spread by contact. Some people are simply more prone to developing skin tags and may have new growths periodically. Some individuals request periodic removal of tags at annual or even quarterly intervals.
What are warts?
Wart are unsightly and sometimes painful growths that seem to crop up out of nowhere. It is caused by a virus that, when in contact with your skin, causes an infection. Warts are more likely to develop on broken skin because the virus is able to enter the top layer of skin through scratches or cuts. Because it is caused by a virus, it is highly contagious and can therefore be passed through contact of someone’s wart or from coming into contact with surfaces that have touched someone’s wart. It can also be spread from one part of your body to another. Though skin warts can’t be prevented, there are a number of precautionary measures you can take to minimize your risk of acquiring warts. One of the most important things you can do is to wash your hands regularly. Also, try to keep your skin healthy, moisturized, and free of cuts. If you bite your fingernails or cuticles, do your best to stop. Biting nails creates an opening for virus to enter your skin. Be careful to use clean, fresh towels at the gym or in other public locations, and always wear rubber-soled flip-flops or sandals in public locker rooms and showers.
